About Almería and Cabo de Gata: the back story

Almería is Andalusia’s sunny far east: a city under a great Moorish fortress, the wild, volcanic coast of Cabo de Gata and the hill town of Mojácar.

Almería

Climb the Alcazaba for the view over the city and the sea, and stay on the cathedral square.

Cabo de Gata

The natural park’s coves and headlands are best explored from San José; bring water and shade.

Until the high-speed line from Murcia opens, Almería is reached by air, by coach or by conventional rail.

Getting there

Fly to Almería, or drive along the coast from Granada or Málaga.

Our advice: visit out of high summer, when the coves are quiet.
